*Microburst*

Storm Chase 2009

Today, we forecasted, waited, chased, and saw!  It was most definitely a success. The environment had all of the ingredients needed for a tornado.  CAPE values were high, wind shear was looking good, the cold front was moving our way (we were able to see it on radar since it was left in clear air mode), and all we needed was for one parcel to make it through the cap.  Our eyes were on the sky!  The clouds began to clump and develop around 3pm, radar then picked up a few storms at 5pm We left our hotel around 5:30pm to begin a life changing chase.  Soon into the chase we saw a microburst (it later turned into the wall that produced the tornado), it had a distinct white middle portion believed to be hail.  I was surprised at how long the microburst lasted (5-8 min) before it dissipated.
